PDP Lashes Out At Governor Aiyedatiwa For Appointment Of Aides

Agboola Ajayi, PDP's Ondo State governor candidate, criticizes Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa's appointment of 344 aides, alleging election rigging

Over the weekend, Breaking news emerged as Agboola Ajayi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for governor in Ondo State’s upcoming November 16 election, criticized Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for appointing 344 aides. Ajayi alleged that the aides, designated as Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and Special Assistants (SAs), were merely a tactic to rig the election.

Ajayi raised concerns that these abrupt appointments, just three months before the election, appeared to be an attempt to deploy ward canvassers for the All Progressives Congress (APC). On Friday, Aiyedatiwa defended the appointments, claiming they were aimed at enhancing efficient governance and were strategically distributed across the state’s 203 electoral wards, 18 local government areas, and 33 local council development zones.

In a statement released by his campaign’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ayo Fadaka, Ajayi described the move as criminal and wasteful, particularly in light of the economic challenges facing the public. He criticized the governor’s decision, stating that the hefty compensation for the newly appointed aides, which is projected to cost the government about N1.2 billion monthly, is a clear misuse of public funds. Ajayi further argued that these resources could have been better utilized to establish a new ministry, rather than appointing APC ward canvassers as SSAs and SAs.
