Breaking news from 9am news Nigeria: Effective September 15, 2024, all major cities in Nigeria will witness a Nationwide Protests as announced by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). This planned shutdown stems from rising fuel prices and the alleged inefficiency of NNPC Director General, Mele Kyari.

The students union has demanded the immediate dismissal of Mr. Mele Kyari from his role as NNPC Director General and a reversal of the recent fuel price hike. They have made it clear that if their demands are not met, the protests will continue but will remain peaceful and lawful.

The notification of the planned protest has been sent to key authorities, including the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Chief of Defence Staff, and all State Governors. The circular issued by NANS reads: “We are notifying you of a massive shutdown of all major cities in Nigeria on September 15, 2024, in response to the recent fuel price hike and the gross incompetence of NNPC Director General, Mele Kyari.”

The statement highlights the suffering caused by constant fuel price increases, emphasizing that the students can no longer stand by while a few individuals jeopardize the future of the masses. NANS urges all Nigerian students to heed this urgent call to action, declaring that they will not be intimidated or silenced in their pursuit of fair treatment for Nigerian students and the general public to join the nationwide protests.

“We assure you that our protest will be nonviolent and legal, and we request that the necessary measures be taken to maintain law and order during the shutdown,” concludes the statement.
