Ogasabi on 9am news Nigeria reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has reiterated its strong support for Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid the ongoing political tensions within the party in the state. The PDP Governors urged that Fubara be given the opportunity to assume the legitimate leadership role within the PDP in Rivers State. This statement was made by the Forum following its fourth regular monthly meeting of 2024, held at Government House in Jalingo, Taraba State.
In a press release read aloud by the Forum’s chairman and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, the PDPGF emphasized the need to address the ongoing political impasse in Rivers State, where party congress outcomes are being determined by court judgments. The Forum declared its intention to work closely with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP to revisit the congress and ensure that Governor Fubara assumes his rightful leadership position within the state.
During the meeting, the PDP Governors also discussed pressing national issues, including the Federal Government’s handling of the #EndBadGovernance protests. They praised the maturity shown by PDP Governors in managing the situation in their respective states, preventing the protests from being hijacked by hoodlums. The Forum reiterated the importance of peaceful protests as a legitimate right of the citizens and called on the Federal Government to ensure a fair and speedy trial for those arrested during the protests.
The PDP Governors expressed their commitment to addressing the suffering of Nigerians and called on the Federal Government to stop the blame game and focus on addressing fundamental policy issues. The Forum also highlighted concerns over the Edo State crisis, urging the Federal Government to proceed cautiously in resolving any arising issues as the governorship election approaches.
Nine PDP Governors attended the one-day Forum meeting, including the host Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, and notable attendees such as Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, who serves as Vice Chairman of the Forum. The meeting underscored the unity and resolve of the PDP Governors to address the challenges facing their states and the party as a whole.
