Oil theft: Army destroys illegal facilities in Bayelsa, Rivers

Ogasabi on 9am news brings you Breaking news from the Nigerian Army’s 6 Division, which has announced the successful discovery and dismantling of massive illegal oil facilities in Bayelsa and Rivers States. This significant operation, carried out by dedicated troops, led to the recovery of over 200,000 litres of illegally refined products, marking a major victory against economic sabotage.

9am news Nigeria reports that in Bayelsa, the discovery was made at Dasaba Creek, where troops uncovered an illegal oil refining site equipped with an oven and a massive metal reservoir and facilities containing over 110,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil. Meanwhile, in Rivers State, troops intercepted over 33,000 litres of illegally refined product being siphoned into a tank. The operation also uncovered an interconnected hose leading to a tank connected to Indorama (Eleme Petrochemicals) pipeline, hidden deep in the bush.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Division, various items were seized from the sites, including two pumping machines, a long hose, and eleven drums used for the illegal operations. In a related development, troops of the 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army, successfully intercepted trucks laden with over 30,000 litres of suspected stolen crude at SEPLAT Energy Nigeria Ltd trunkline, Mosogar, Delta State.

9am news also reports that in another operation, troops from the 16 Brigade intercepted a truck carrying over 30,000 litres of suspected stolen crude along the Elebele-Emeyal road in Bayelsa. Additionally, a joint operation at Cawthorne Channel 1 led to the deactivation of an illegal refining site with over 5,500 litres of suspected stolen crude near Well Head 8 in Degema LGA, Rivers State.

Oil Theft On Economic Situation

Lt. Col Danjuma highlighted that these breakthroughs are part of a renewed effort by the troops to clamp down on economic saboteurs and their collaborators. Four suspects—Freedom Effiong, Behaviour Power, Timothy Onyebuchi, and Love Ifeanyi—have been arrested in connection with these operations and will be handed over to relevant agencies for prosecution.
