Breaking News: France captain and Real Madrid summer transfer Kylian Mbappe has acquired majority ownership of French Ligue 2 team Caen. According to NDTV Sports, Mbappé’s company, Interconnected Ventures, announced on Wednesday that it had purchased 80 percent of the shares through Coalition Capital, replacing the US investment fund Oaktree as the dominant shareholder.
Although no official price has been revealed, French media reports estimate the acquisition fee to be between €15 million and €20 million. The deal marks a significant milestone in Caen’s strategic development, aiming to position the club as one of the most successful in French football. The acquisition will provide Caen with strategic resources to expand its sports policy, upgrade infrastructure, and undertake innovative projects.
Mbappe, who is now one of the youngest professional club owners at 25, was once courted by Caen as a youth player before moving on to Monaco and then Paris Saint-Germain. His close friend Ziad Hammoud will take over as club chairman, emphasizing their commitment to creating an environment where young talent can flourish and the club can maintain its identity with strength and ambition.
Caen Mayor Aristide Olivier expressed pride in seeing a champion like Mbappe invest in the club, hinting at the lasting impression the city made on the young star during his youth. Founded in 1913, Caen’s notable achievements include placing seventh in the top division in 1992 and reaching the League Cup final in 2005. However, the club has been playing in France’s second division since 2019.
