In Abuja, the situation turned tense as police fired tear gas indiscriminately to prevent protesters of the #EndBadGovernance from entering the landmark Eagle Square area in the Three Arms Zone. Despite the police’s efforts to maintain order, the demonstration grew more intense, with protesters standing their ground and chanting against police actions.
In Port Harcourt, protesters resumed their demonstrations at Pleasure Park, according to Channels TV. A potential clash between protesting youths and the counter-terrorism unit of the Nigeria Police Force was narrowly avoided. The confrontation occurred when the counter-terrorism unit, patrolling along the popular Aba Road, encountered the protesters. The police demanded that the youths vacate the road, but the protesters refused, chanting, “No! No! How many people police go kill?”
The situation escalated as tension mounted, with some armed officers alighting from their trucks. The state Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, quickly arrived at the scene to address the protesters. Disu commended the demonstrators for their peaceful conduct and urged them not to disrupt public peace or infringe on the rights of other citizens.
In Abuja, police blocked the route leading to the Central Business District, preventing the march from entering the city center. After deploying tear gas, they pushed the demonstrators back toward Moshood Abiola Stadium. Hundreds of protesters had gathered there, encouraging others to join the march. However, less than 30 minutes into the demonstration, police blocked their path and dispersed them with tear gas.
Reports indicate that police have secured the area around the National Stadium, while the military has taken up positions near Galadinmawa Roundabout. Many protesters fled to Games Village, while others regrouped at Moshood Abiola Stadium after being dispersed.
