Senate Session

Breaking news from Ogasabi and 9am news: Ahead of Thursday’s planned statewide protests against hunger and hardship, the Senate is currently holding an extraordinary session. Senate President Godswill Akpabio presides over the gathering. In a somber moment, the lawmakers observed a minute of silence in memory of Senator Ifeanyi Uba before his family’s expected formal announcement of his passing to the Senate.

Following this, the Senate went into a closed-door session. This meeting comes on the heels of an emergency session called for today, as announced on Sunday by both the Red and Green Chambers. The House of Representatives’ spokesperson, Rotimi Akin, issued a statement on Monday highlighting that today’s plenary session would focus on pressing issues that require immediate legislative action.

The statement read, “The House of Representatives wishes to announce that, pursuant to the directive of the Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen, PhD., a plenary session has been scheduled for Wednesday, July 31, 2024. Honorable members have been duly called to this important session from their respective constituencies.” Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, Esq., the Clerk of the House, also sent out an internal note on Sunday outlining this directive.

Akin emphasized that the House typically reconvenes from recess to address urgent matters of national importance. This extraordinary session underscores the gravity of the situation, as the country braces for widespread protests.
