Ogasabi, reporting for 9am news Nigeria, brings you the latest breaking news: Nigerian lawyer, actor, and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has announced his decision to sever ties with Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi and the party in the 2023 General Election. Okonkwo expressed doubts about Obi’s ability to address national issues and lead effectively.

In response, Obi subtly emphasized the importance of patience and humility in leadership, clarifying that these traits do not equate to weakness. This exchange has garnered significant attention in the political landscape.

Okonkwo reiterated his commitment to a vision of a great Nigeria founded on equity, justice, and fairness. However, he criticized the current leadership of both the APC and PDP for failing to achieve this vision. Initially, Okonkwo supported Obi’s presidential bid but grew disillusioned with Obi’s leadership style, particularly his inability to establish a strong party base and his ambivalence toward the Labour Union’s efforts to uphold the party’s values.

Okonkwo questioned Obi’s capacity to win elections and confront the nation’s “kleptocrats” and “kakistocrats.” He stressed the need for a more decisive, fearless, honest, and team-oriented leader to fulfill his vision for Nigeria. Okonkwo’s statement read: “What is happening in the Labour Party today has inspired me to chart a new course for my political journey. Many Nigerians, myself included, were hopeful for the Labour Party after the 2023 general election.”

Kenneth Okonkwo Further Expresses His Disbelief

He continued, “I believed Peter Obi would seize the momentum and build a solid party of integrity. He just needed to give the right directives, and everyone would align. My initial shock came when he openly stated he promised Nigerians he would solve their problems, not necessarily build a powerful Labour Party.”

Okonkwo further expressed his frustration, questioning whether Obi understood the necessity of a strong party base for political success. Despite his disappointment, Okonkwo continued to support Obi, hoping he would address the LP’s issues privately, to no avail.

Additionally, Okonkwo revealed that Obi suggested the National Working Committee, led by Abure, should call an inclusive convention to allow every Labour Party member a voice in choosing the party’s leaders. However, Obi’s refusal to distance himself from the former NWC’s questionable actions signaled the end of their political association.
