The convener of the Take It Back Movement, Omoyele Sowore, has firmly ruled out joining the new political coalition spearheaded by Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Nasir El-Rufai, aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

In a recent appearance on Arise TV’s Politics Today, Sowore dismissed the idea of participating in any alliance with figures he believes are complicit in Nigeria’s long-standing political decay.

“I’m not joining any coalition,” Sowore stated emphatically.
“The coalition that they joined in 2013 and 2015 is what brought about the APC. So joining another coalition in 2025 is doing the same thing all over again without thinking—expecting to achieve a different result.”

He went further to describe the coalition of Atiku, Obi, and El-Rufai as a political recycling effort that has historically failed Nigerians.

Sowore, a fierce critic of Nigeria’s ruling elite, clarified that his allegiance lies with the “coalition of the oppressed”, not career politicians.

“The coalition that needs to be built is that of the oppressed,” he said.
“Joining another coalition made up of the same people who created the coalition that ruined Nigeria is an injustice and an injury to the people of Nigeria.”

He also dismissed speculations that he could defect to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) or any other mainstream platform.
“I’m not part of those playing chess with the destiny of Nigerians,” he added.

Meanwhile, Atiku Abubakar, during a press conference organized by “Concerned Leaders and Political Stakeholders in Nigeria,” revealed the formation of a new coalition alongside Peter Obi and Nasir El-Rufai.

The coalition’s stated goal is to “rescue Nigeria” from what they describe as President Tinubu’s misgovernance. Atiku warned against allowing political desperation to derail Nigeria’s democracy, stressing the importance of federalism, constitutional order, and national unity.

However, critics like Sowore argue that this coalition represents the same old political class that has contributed to Nigeria’s stagnation.
