2027 Elections: Peter Obi Dismisses LP, NNPP Merger Ahead of 2027 Elections

Labour Party’s Peter Obi denies any merger plans with PDP, NNPP, or other parties for 2027, calling on Nigerians to unite against APC's governance failures.
LP NNPP Merger

Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has clarified that no merger agreement exists between the LP and other political parties, such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Obi urged Nigerians committed to national progress to join forces to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. He accused the APC administration, led by President Bola Tinubu, of resource mismanagement, corruption, and escalating public debt.

The former Anambra State governor expressed concerns over Nigeria’s worsening security situation, citing banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping-for-ransom as significant threats to citizens.

“The level of corruption remains high, while the cost of governance has skyrocketed. Public funds are being willfully mismanaged through incessant foreign travels and unnecessary expenses,” Obi stated.

The 2023 presidential election highlighted Obi’s rise as a formidable contender. While Bola Tinubu of the APC won with 8,794,726 votes, Obi garnered an impressive 6,101,533 votes as a first-time contestant, finishing third behind PDP’s Atiku Abubakar, who secured 6,984,520 votes. NNPP’s Rabiu Kwankwaso finished fourth with 1,496,687 votes, winning in his stronghold of Kano State.

Obi and Kwankwaso were both former PDP members who left the party due to irreconcilable differences before the 2023 polls.

Despite denying the LP and NNPP merger plans, Obi remains optimistic about uniting Nigerians under a common goal of good governance. Also, He reiterated the importance of collaboration among political stakeholders to address the country’s pressing challenges and deliver meaningful change in 2027.

“Nigeria needs all its lovers to rally and reclaim the nation from those mismanaging it,” Obi emphasized.
